The paper aims to show the way in which Dante selects the vehicle of several similes of his ‘Commedia’ also by “scenery” reasons, so to implicitly suggest some details, whose thematic and narratological importance strongly arise only in a second moment. In some of these similes, it is indeed possible to read, between the lines, some veritable “notes of inner-direction”, just like those used by Shakespeare’s playwriting style. Such a strategy aims to accompany the reader through the ultramundane realm, and to make appear the things he sees at the same distance, perspective, and special or temporal viewpoint, as Dante the pilgrim saw them for the first time, that is even before he re-elaborate poetically his journey beside Virgil.

Abstract
The paper aims to show the way in which Dante selects the vehicle of several similes of his ‘Commedia’ also by “scenery” reasons, so to implicitly suggest some details, whose thematic and narratological importance strongly arise only in a second moment. In some of these similes, it is indeed possible to read, between the lines, some veritable “notes of inner-direction”, just like those used by Shakespeare’s playwriting style. Such a strategy aims to accompany the reader through the ultramundane realm, and to make appear the things he sees at the same distance, perspective, and special or temporal viewpoint, as Dante the pilgrim saw them for the first time, that is even before he re-elaborate poetically his journey beside Virgil.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
