How does poetic function in theater language, and what are the expressive matter, the elements, the syntax of theater language? The article examines the linguistic system of theater, an art whose expressive material is the organic matter of the actor's physical body in the scene. The meaning of the show comes from the use of this particular expressive material to obtain shapes, actions, movements, postures, individual body configurations and combined with other elements such as the body of other actors, objects, spaces, movements on the scene. In fact, the idea of theater as recitation of a script or representation of facts placed in a narrative sequence is now overcome. Using above all the direct experiences of the actors, we examine how the malleable material of the body is used and segmented by actors and directors, what are its lexical elements, identified in the different articulations of the body trimmed by segmentation, and how they are used to compose body enunciations and produce poetic effects. It concludes with a list of the specific poetic effects of this expressive material, confirming that the poetic function is made in theater with the manipulation of the organic matter of the actor's body, also indicating which are the lexicon and syntax of this language.

Come agisce la funzione poetica nel linguaggio del teatro, e quindi quali sono la materia espressiva, gli elementi, la sintassi del linguaggio del teatro? L’articolo esamina il sistema linguistico del teatro, un’arte il cui materiale espressivo è la materia organica del corpo fisico dell’attore in scena. Il significato dello spettacolo scaturisce dall’uso di questo particolare materiale espressivo per ottenere forme, azioni, movimenti, posture, configurazioni del corpo individuale e combinato con altri elementi quali il corpo degli altri attori, oggetti, spazi, movimenti presenti in scena. È oggi infatti superata l’idea del teatro come recitazione di un copione o come rappresentazione di fatti posti in una sequenza narrativa. Utilizzando soprattutto le esperienze dirette degli attori, si esamina in quale modo è usato e segmentato da attori e registi il materiale malleabile del corpo in scena, quali sono i suoi elementi lessicali, identificati nelle diverse articolazioni del corpo ritagliate dalla segmentazione, e in quale modo sono usati per comporre enunciati corporei e per produrre effetti poetici. Si conclude con un elenco degli effetti poetici specifici di questo materiale espressivo, confermando che la funzione poetica è realizzata in teatro con la manipolazione della materia organica del corpo dell’attore, indicando anche quali siano lessico e sintassi di questo linguaggio.
