In this article the author draws a brief history of Polish cultural discourse from 1989 until today, underlining the growing weight of the «romantic paradigm» (Maria Janion) and of its nationalistic and messianic implications. Three recent literary texts ‒ On Mother and Fatherland by Bożena Keff, 2008, A Book by Mikołaj Łoziński, 2011, e Jacob’s Scriptures by Olga Tokarczuk, 2014 ‒ are given as examples of the possibility of narrating the Polish history in a pluralistic and non-authoritarian fashion.
