This work focuses on the Genoese consulships in the Tyrrhenian Sea, seen as parts of a geographically defined information system in a long-term, bivalent perspective: the consulship as the main reference point for local networks, and consulships as cornerstones of a wider network, integrated with the diplomatic one. In this framework the information take shape, move in different directions redefining themselves and improving in quality due to a continuous, mutual interaction between the local and supralocal levels that typify this system.
