With the passage of time an increasing number of dangerous goods are carried by sea on container ships. Even if during recent years there have been minor accidents, it has considerably increased the risk of serious damage to cargo, ship, people on board or overboard, assets and the marine environment. The article reviews the liability regime of the owner, carrier, shipper and charterer for damage from carriage by sea of dangerous and noxious goods in order to determine whether the present international and internal regulatory framework can be considered satisfactory.
