In Distance Language Learning, and more generally in Computer Assisted Language Learning, tool and environment design is not a prominent area of research. Most of the work in the field is centered around how to effectively use tools rather than on how to develop them. This results in practitioners using professional software, whose features they have to take into account before they design their computer supported activities. As a result, work in the field of Computer Assisted Language Learning has produced, over the years, a vast body of research whose pedagogical results can nowadays constitute the foundation for producing tools designed based on the findings of Second Language Acquisition research in connection with technology. An example of Virtual learning Environment is presented which was built based on the specific needs of a Distance Language Learning course for advanced learners.

Abstract
In Distance Language Learning, and more generally in Computer Assisted Language Learning, tool and environment design is not a prominent area of research. Most of the work in the field is centered around how to effectively use tools rather than on how to develop them. This results in practitioners using professional software, whose features they have to take into account before they design their computer supported activities. As a result, work in the field of Computer Assisted Language Learning has produced, over the years, a vast body of research whose pedagogical results can nowadays constitute the foundation for producing tools designed based on the findings of Second Language Acquisition research in connection with technology. An example of Virtual learning Environment is presented which was built based on the specific needs of a Distance Language Learning course for advanced learners.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
