LAVORO MARITTIMO, TUTELA ISTITUZIONALE E CONFLITTUALITÀ SOCIALE A BORDO DEI BASTIMENTI DELLA REPUBBLICA DI GENOVA NEL XVIII SECOLO

the main aim of this contribution is to focus - preliminarily - on the world of maritime labour during the Age of Enlightenment, traditionally perceived as a border ground as well as a "transnational" place, where both integrations and conflicts reach the highest levels in the Ancien Regime society. Following the method of "history from below", as it was formalized, with respect to the maritime world, by the American historian Marcus Rediker several decades ago, the purpose here is to analyze the representations, the integrations and the conflicts occurring on board, using the procedural documentation drafted by the Magistrato dei Conservatori del Mare of the Republic of Genoa, one of the few Italian institutions comparable to the French, English and Dutch Admiralties.
