This paper aims at analysing the representation of childhood in contemporary Quebec fiction. More precisely, we are looking in the first part into the “canon” of «childhood fiction» as established by literary criticism through the analysis of seven essays published on the subject between 1993 and 2012 and dealing with works published between 1958 and 2006. In the second part, we look at more recent publications (2001-2013) on the same theme and in the third we examine two significant fictional works (2011) in which children characters have great importance.

Abstract

This paper aims at analysing the representation of childhood in contemporary Quebec fiction. More precisely, we are looking in the first part into the “canon” of «childhood fiction» as established by literary criticism through the analysis of seven essays published on the subject between 1993 and 2012 and dealing with works published between 1958 and 2006. In the second part, we look at more recent publications (2001-2013) on the same theme and in the third we examine two significant fictional works (2011) in which children characters have great importance.
