Abstract

A single step reaction of precursor oxides is shown to synthesize successfully the new superconducting HgBa2 CuO4+X in pellets. The specimens prepared with this method exhibit a very sharp resistive transition with T = 95K and a very weak magnetic field dependence in the resistivity. Magnetic susceptibility measurements and the estimation of the irreversibility line are also reported. Our results indicate that irreversibility line is located at temperature higher than in Bi-based systems.
