“Technical Studies in the field of the Fine Arts” was the official journal of the Fogg Art Museum (Harvard, Cambridge, Mass.), founded in 1932 by Edward W.Forbes and devoted to technical issues in artefacts examination and conservation. After outlining the figures of Forbes, as Harvard University Professor and first director of the Fogg Museum as well, the article reconstructs the role played by his Assistant Editors: George Stout, Rutherford Gettens and Alan Burroughs. Finally, the article analyses the lifetime of the pioneering journal (1932-42), focusing on the main fields the many contributions were dealing with: historical examination of the processes and materials of the past; studies of technical sources; problems in restoration and conservation; study and detection of forgeries.
