In this paper we consider the Italian mathematical journals of the second half of Nineteenth Century that are oriented to the teaching of mathematics at different school levels; they contain articles in the various fields of mathematics written by mathematics teachers and also by University professors interested in the transmission of the mathematical knowledge. Some of these journals had a short life and were not very widespread in the country, others had a good diffusion and were published for many years: among the last ones we count Rivista di matematica elementare, Periodico di matematica, Rivista di matematica. We focus our attention on these three journals and analise some elements that help to outline their cultural orientation, in relation with the mathematical research and classroom practice of the period.
