There is no doubt that, in the past few years, new discussions have taken place in the field of translation history and historiography about the use of archives and of digital resources as online catalogues, repositories and databases. This interest has led to new insights about the limits and the possibilities of an archaeological type of research in translation history, and about the best suited instruments to carry it out. In this paper I propose a series of observations and reflections about the difficulties and the challenges faced by those who are involved in large-scale archaeological projects regarding the retrieval and systematization of large bodies of translation data, and about the meaning of a bibliographical and archival type of research in a context of hyper-information and hyper-connectivity like the present time.

Abstract

2024
