This work aims to show how today the topic of food connected to migrations and confessional practices poses new challenges in terms of peaceful urban coexistence between cultures. The research was conducted at national level in the two-year period 2020-2021 in the field of school canteens, intended as a meeting place between different cultures and practices, with the aim of exploring the degree of inclusiveness and openness with respect to the menu offer of ethical-religious type. We will try to understand the moment of the shared meal as a form of contact, arguing how food can be considered an identity space of self-affirmation and knowledge of the Other.

Abstract

This work aims to show how today the topic of food connected to migrations and confessional practices poses new challenges in terms of peaceful urban coexistence between cultures. The research was conducted at national level in the two-year period 2020-2021 in the field of school canteens, intended as a meeting place between different cultures and practices, with the aim of exploring the degree of inclusiveness and openness with respect to the menu offer of ethical-religious type. We will try to understand the moment of the shared meal as a form of contact, arguing how food can be considered an identity space of self-affirmation and knowledge of the Other.
