Abstract

The digital revolution has exposed cognitive and mnemonic functions: in this work we discuss the concept of collective memory not so much in terms of sharing opinions and events, but in the Augustinian terms of memory as container, support, custodian and origin of one’s own individuality. We attempt to hypothesize the risks and the potentialities of excessive connection and sharing of the self on the Net taking, as an example, the recently surfaced human drive to share the portrait of oneself online.
