In this paper, the racking phenomena has been studied on an Italian pure car track carrier vessel both by the theoretical point of view and by the practical one. A direct calculation has been carried out by using the Finite Element Method on the ship assumed as a study case, focusing in particular on the stress distribution induced by racking movements. On this base, the fatigue life prediction, trough hot spot checks, has been assessed as well.
