The comics version of Caesar’s dē bellō Gallicō by Count von Rothenburg adds a fictional character whose well-formed Gaulish name is Varucciō. Goscinny & Uderzo’s Pseudo-Gaulish pun-names such as Asterix (maybe Obelix as well), including those of ficticious Roman camps Aquarium, Babaorum, Laudanum, and Petibonum have, in spite of everything, a plausible Celtic etymology, and the ill-segmented suffix -ix is identical with the well-known ending -ez in Spanish surnames.

Abstract

The comics version of Caesar’s dē bellō Gallicō by Count von Rothenburg adds a fictional character whose well-formed Gaulish name is Varucciō. Goscinny & Uderzo’s Pseudo-Gaulish pun-names such as Asterix (maybe Obelix as well), including those of ficticious Roman camps Aquarium, Babaorum, Laudanum, and Petibonum have, in spite of everything, a plausible Celtic etymology, and the ill-segmented suffix -ix is identical with the well-known ending -ez in Spanish surnames.
