Abstract

The rise of the novel (Cervantes, Defoe, etc.) empowered and diffused the idea of moral equality and so promoted great changes in European societies and in their modern institutions. Novels are rarely a reliable source of information about Law of the past. On the contrary, they often preannounce juridical problems and prepare political choices of the future: this is one of the best reasons why reading and discussing Literature should be a part of legal education.
