In this paper we present a cooperative learning experience teaching Mathematics iat the University of Genoa. In particular, we present some ideas for a cooperative e-learning based on specific teaching methodologies and using a virtual laboratory approach. The virtual lab we present uses AulaWeb, which is an on-line support service at the University of Genova, developed on a Moodle platform and accessible through a browser. We describe the functions and characteristics of the virtual labs and we show, through various examples, how students can have an effective collaborative learning experience, so improving both their specific knowledge and their cognitive and meta-cognitive skills. Finally, we describe how collaborative learning can also improve the accuracy of the evaluation of students' learning.
