The paper addresses the compatibility of the law n. 52/2015 with the parliamentary form of government, highlighting potential weaknesses and shortcomings. The paper first conducts a brief overview of the circumstances leading to the approval of the above mentioned election law. Then, it also tracks the origins of a system ensuring a parliamentary single-party majority after every election. Such a characteristic, emphasized as an absolute virtue of the new electoral legislation by its proponents, seems to be in conflict with the parliamentary form of government provided for by the Italian Constitution. Finally, the purpose of the paper is to demonstrate that the application of the new election system, in conjunction with the draft constitutional reform soon to be confirmed by referendum, would lead – although implicitly – to the direct election of the President of the Council of Ministers
