In this study the 1525 English translation of Hieronymus Brunschwig’s Buch der Cirurgia (Noble experyence of the virtuous handy Warke of surgery) will be dealt with, paying particular attention to its relationship to the other versions of the text. Furthermore, the specialized terminology used to refer to the semantic fields of anatomy, pathology and surgical technique and instruments will be investigated, in order to outline the relationship between vernacular and classical terminology.
