Giovanni Andrea Carlone is an atypical presence among the Genoese artists of the seventeenth century: far from home indeed experienced great success both in Rome and in Perugia, before returning to Genoa to lead his father great-established shop since 1678. Unfortunately, in particular after the second World War, many of the works created in Genoa after his return today have disappeared, and do not allow us to read organically the production of the artist. The discovery of some historical photos documenting entirely an important pictorial cycle therefore allows a more accurate reasoning on the chronology of his works, the models used, the implementation methods used in the workshop and on the active collaborations with contemporary "pittori di quadro", allowing thus adding a valuable element to the production of the artist.
