Abstract
After more than two centuries of industrial process' centrality, today urban development programs and social organization systems resulted in the marginalization of agriculture and rural areas. In people’s perception urban development and agriculture, and therefore also food production, are decoupled. This paper deals with food as a device of planning in Hannover metropolitan region, home to a high-performing and innovative agro-industry whose products are demanded all over the world. For this reason 'Food and the City' was initiated as a research platform with the intention to suggest a new vision for the future urban development of Hannover as a Rural Metropolis. Moreover it aims to investigate the theoretical positions and some applied strategies (landmarks, urban fringe, land reclamation) related to open spaces and peri-urban areas, considered as potential resource for Hannover sustainable development.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
