FOOD and the CITY was initiated as a research platform with the intention to suggest a new vision for the future urban development of Hannover as a Rural Metropolis. On an inter-regional scale, the Rural Metropolis of Hannover should be able to provide food not only for the Lower Saxony Region, but also for Berlin, Hamburg and the Rhein/Ruhr regions. Today, Lower Saxony is one of Germany’s most intensive agricultural state home to a high–performing and innovative food industry (20 billion € with more than 100,000 employees) whose products are demanded all over the world. At the same time, the widespread demand for healthy food as part of a healthy lifestyle is growing; not only regarding bio-products but also for low cost self-sufficiency. According to these factors the role of agriculture and food supply has to be reevaluated within the development of Hannover Region.

Abstract
According to these factors the role of agriculture and food supply has to be reevaluated within the development of Hannover Region.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
