Most of the gardens of the Mediterranean Liguria have been surveyed in order to verify the influences of the spontaneous species on their floristic composition and on the structure and dynamics od their vegetation. The study has taken into account only the portions of gardens well defined from a phisiognomical point of view: grasslands and woodlands. The study has put in evidence that the present relationship between man and its gardens are accompained by wide spread lack of knowledge about the intrinsic dynamicc of vegetation. Consequently, the changes in the floristic composition and in the structure of the vegetation which take place in the course of time are casual and due mainly to the anthropogenic management of the areas.
