ABSTRACT: We here report on the characterization of human osteoblast (HOB) adhesive behavior on extracellular matrix protesins, on the identification of biosynthesized integrin chains and on the initial characterization of the effect of the substrate on the expression of the differention marker alkaline phosphatase and on cell profiliferation. Fibronectin, laminin, type I collagen and vitronectin were good substrates for the adhesion of the cultured HOB. Integrins synthesized included a 5/ß 1, a v/ß 1, a v/ß 3 and a 3/ß 1. No a 2 or a 6 or a 1 cjains were detected. Neither FN or LN had effects on alkaline phosphates expression or cell profiliferatior within six days.
