The essay presents the idea of the Plebiscitary Politics in the Homeric poems as shown by Dean Hammer in his book entitled The Iliad as Politics. The performance of Political Thought, by laying emphasis on the political value of the Homeric "encyclopedia" in creating political patterns able to influence the Western Political Thought in the following centuries. Particularly it is shown Hammer's reading on the complex relation between the Homeric kings and the masses, a relation that aims at cutting out from the political arena the áristoi that represented a real and dangerous threat to the monocratic power.

Abstract
