The use of artificial intelligence methodology to tackle electric power system problems is becoming more and more diffuse. This paper considers in detail, among the real-time and off-line functions included in modern control centres, the elimination of overloads on transmission lines. Attention is given to the adopted software tools and their main features, to the general development of the knowledge base and of the chosen solving procedure, and to the application of the expert system to a sample network. Final considerations on possible extension of the present form are also provided, particularly for what concerns the reliability of the system for on-line experimentation.

Abstract
The use of artificial intelligence methodology to tackle electric power system problems is becoming more and more diffuse. This paper considers in detail, among the real-time and off-line functions included in modern control centres, the elimination of overloads on transmission lines. Attention is given to the adopted software tools and their main features, to the general development of the knowledge base and of the chosen solving procedure, and to the application of the expert system to a sample network. Final considerations on possible extension of the present form are also provided, particularly for what concerns the reliability of the system for on-line experimentation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
