Carbone, focuses on the contribution of European Union law to the strengthening of labour standards in the maritime sector both substantively and by way of the introduction of ad-hoc private international law rules. Mention is made, in this respect, of a series of international, European and collective legal instruments as well as of the significant contribution of the European Court of Justice's case law.
