The spectrum of 1,3-butadiene adsorbed on hydroxylated silica is reported. The detection of all fundamentals in the available spectral range indicates a lowering of the symmetry of the molecule upon physisorption, interpreted as being due to an s-trans to s-cis conformational change. © 1984.
