In this paper the numerical evaluation of the seakeeping behaviour of two cases of trimaran ships and of a catamaran fitted with a central bulb is carried out by a 3D Rankine source methodology. A Wigley trimaran and a trimaran of practical interest have been examined. The former has been studied for validation purposes. In the latter case a grid of configurations has been selected in order to systematically appreciate the influence of the relevant mutual position of the hull components, at different Froude numbers. For the bulb catamaran, two different bulbs in different longitudinal positions have been studied.

Abstract

In this paper the numerical evaluation of the seakeeping behaviour of two cases of trimaran ships and of a catamaran fitted with a central bulb is carried out by a 3D Rankine source methodology. A Wigley trimaran and a trimaran of practical interest have been examined. The former has been studied for validation purposes. In the latter case a grid of configurations has been selected in order to systematically appreciate the influence of the relevant mutual position of the hull components, at different Froude numbers. For the bulb catamaran, two different bulbs in different longitudinal positions have been studied.
