The article aims to illustrate in a critical approach the phenomenon that more and more colloquial lexical and stylistic elements find their way in contemporary German press language. By corpus analysis and field studies some problems aroused by the increase of colloquial language in press articles such as appropriateness, general comprehension and aesthetics are discussed in the essay.

Abstract
