The paper investigates a selected data base acquired by anemometric stations spread on the Italian country. Wind velocity measures have been recorded for about fifty years. The analysis points out notable connections between the statistical parameters of current and extreme wind velocities. As far as the current values are concerned, a model of the parameters is proposed according to the site location. Concerning the extreme values, it is provided a forecasting model on varying the return period. Abstract

The final section gives a synthesis of the results obtained in a format suitable to be included in national guidelines. Preliminary elements are given for a new wind map, fit for analyze a large class of structures and their behavior.
