The paper describes the most relevant features and performances of a large size mechatronic prototype designed for automatic manipulation of book material. The unit involves pneumatic devices controlled by PLC and it is able to search, pick up, move and put back books of different size and nature into shelves. Considering the particular subjects of manipulation, special problems related to grip, motion and spatial orientation has been studied and solved.

Abstract
