This article explores the borders of and critical links between art history, aesthetics and anthropology, focusing in particular on the origins of some recent debates and the figure of art historian and anthropologist Aby Warburg. Recent shifts in the disciplines of art history and anthropology suggest an expanding overlap between the concerns and practices of those working in each field.
