A method for the localization of electromagnetic sources and for the detection of passive scatterers when illuminated by interrogating waves is proposed. The directions of arrival of the signals generated by the sources are estimated by means of a regression technique based on the use of support vector machines (SVM). The proposed method, after a proper training procedure, is able to identify the angles of arrival both in the case in which they are included in training samples and in the case in which they are unknown. Abstract

Numerical results are provided for the validation of the approach
