During the second half of the 19th century and the first two decades of the 20th, Pegli, a small village not far from Genoa, was one of the most prestigious and famous seaside resort of the Riviera. While other little town of the Liguria region (Sanremo, Bordighera, Alassio, Nervi) originally were health resorts, visited in winter by foreigners, at the same time Pegli became a national and international tourist destination. The aim of this paper is to examine Pegli’s tourist development, from 1846, when the sector took his first steps, to 1926, when it stopped to be a self-governing commune and progressively changed into a residential district of Genoa.
