The transmitted text of Theophr. De sud. 10 lektevon uJpe;r w|n givnetai dev, evidently corrupted, needs to be emended as follows: lektevon u{steron: givnetai dev. In the rest of the treatise Theophrast does not deal with bad odor caused by rue and certain myrrh oils anymore, but possibly he acts like this because he did not keep his promise, or because he deemed it necessary to discuss the argument more deeply in another treatise such as the lost Peri; ejkkrivsew~, strictly connected with the De sudoribus.
