It is presented a first synthesis on archaeological research conducted by the University of Genoa in the Mongolian steppe, on the site of Sume And Holon, where it was built in 1297 the oldest Catholic church in east Asia, by Giovanni da Montecorvino. This presence is inserted in the intense trade relations and religious between Europe and Chinese empire, reports in which play a decisive role the Genoese merchants.
