Abstract

What is the link between the epic geographical imagination and th "discovery" of the ego codified by Anaximander's "kosmos" and Ecateus's "oikumene"? The investigation on both cultural examples allows us to point out the presence of subjective point of view in myth, reverberating the archaic "Greekness" identity. At the beginning of culture of "sign", this peculiar expression of the ego turns into logical form, making the geographical notions of "kosmos" and "oikumene" the basics of philosophical and political discourse which later on will evolve into Eurocentrism.
