Some Sea trials measurements regarding the propulsion related performance of the world's largest monohull fast ferry, the MDV-3000, are presented in this paper. The 145m LOA fast ferry has an installed power of about 70,000 BkW distributed to four KaMeWa size 180 waterjets and reaches a top speed of above 42 knots. An additional appendage for the measurement of the stem wake was prepared and fitted on the hull during the propulsion sea trials. The water velocity was measured at different distances below the bottom plating adjacent to the inlets of the waterjets. Interesting consideration about the full-scale boundary layer are drawn in this paper, which mainly involve the operating parameters or the waterjets. Other sea trials performance, mainly regarding the manoeuvrability characteristic of the vessel, are presented as well, being related again by the propulsion system and type.
