Croce, la Scuola storica e la riscrittura delle recensioni nelle prime "Conversazioni critiche"

This essay focuses on several reviews from the early years of publication of “La Critica”, as collected in the second series of the Conversazioni. Croce engages polemically with various figures from the “Scuola storica”, such as Rodolfo Renier, Emilio Bertana, and Egidio Gorra, who are organically reconsidered and re-contextualized in a finalistic perspective. Croce’s strategies of stylistic revision are assessed, highlighting their various aims, from a more precise distillation of the typical elements of Croce’s thought to the persistence, cancellation, and changes of the more polemical elements dating back to a different, yet not entirely faded, era.
