The essay aims to examine the figure of don Lorenzo Milani, considering the Jewish or- igins of the Christian priest as a founding element of his pedagogy. In education to the word ‒ understood as an authentic expression of thought and subjective spiritual es- sence ‒ don Milani's humanism appears, in which an original pedagogy ‒ secular and, at the same time, prophetic ‒ is aimed at seeking self-formation of human beings, es- pecially the poorest, promoting their cultural and moral emancipation as the result of a free conscience and knowledge open to the critical interpretation of the world.
Il contributo prende in esame la figura di don Lorenzo Milani, considerando l’originarietà ebraica del sacerdote cristiano quale cifra costitutiva della sua pedagogia. Nell’educa- zione alla parola ‒ quest’ultima intesa come espressione autentica del pensiero e dell’essenza spirituale soggettiva ‒ si concreta l’umanesimo di don Milani, in cui una originale pedagogia ‒ laica e, insieme, profetica ‒ è protesa nel ricercare la formazione degli esseri umani, specialmente dei più poveri, promuovendone l’emancipazione cul- turale e morale quale esito d’una coscienza libera e della conoscenza aperta all’inter- pretazione critica del mondo.
