Contemporary philosophical questions about the migratory phenomenon starting from Arendt. Among the approaches to this topic recently proposed, I will focus on the writings of Dummett and Ricoeur as they are crucial for the transition from the “philosophy on migration” to a philosophy attentive to the migrant as such. I will underline the main convergences between their theses regarding borders, aimed at highlighting the current limits of reflection on migrants. Both consider essential to reformulate the language regarding migration to restore to the migrant the dignity that he deserves as a human being.

Abstract

Contemporary philosophical questions about the migratory phenomenon starting from Arendt. Among the approaches to this topic recently proposed, I will focus on the writings of Dummett and Ricoeur as they are crucial for the transition from the “philosophy on migration” to a philosophy attentive to the migrant as such. I will underline the main convergences between their theses regarding borders, aimed at highlighting the current limits of reflection on migrants. Both consider essential to reformulate the language regarding migration to restore to the migrant the dignity that he deserves as a human being.
