This work aims to provide a new critical edition with an introduction and a line-by-line commentary for M. Valerius's 'Bucolica', a collection of Latin pastoral odes which probably ought to be dated to several centuries earlier than commonly believed so far in light of the literary, linguistic, palaeographical and metrical evidence retrieved from a closer scrutiny of the text and its extant manuscript witnesses.
