The Platonic Soul in Aristotelian Garb : Harmony and the Faculties of the Mind in Cristofo Marcello’s Thought · In the history of Renaissance philosophy, Cristoforo Marcello’s remarkable output on the theory of the soul remains largely unexplored to this day. This article focuses on two works of his, the Universalis de anima traditionis opus (1508) and De animae sanitate (1518). In the Opus, which is an all-encompassing account concerning the teachings on the soul (traditio), arguments from the Platonic tradition are embedded in a scholastic framework. Marcello shows how involved he was in matters concerning number symbolism and how strongly he was influenced by Marsilio Ficino and Pico della Mirandola. In De animae sanitate (1518), Marcello addresses the specific issue of Pythagorean intervals.
