La conferenza di Genova sulla carta stampata italiana e la corsa alla Russia: tematiche, aspettative e impatto

This paper analyzes the perception and expectations related to the organization of the 1922 Genoa International Conference through one of the most influential local newspapers, “Il Secolo XIX”. “Il Secolo XIX” is a historical newspaper in Genoa, founded on April 25, 1886: its history is closely linked to the history of Genoese industry, particularly the Ansaldo company. Given its close ties to the city of Genoa, the newspaper maintained full media coverage from the ‘22 conference. From the moment it was decided in Cannes that an economic conference would be held in Genoa, newspaper articles followed one another at an almost daily pace. Through the pages of the newspaper, the evolution of expectations related to the conference and comments on the events are systematically reconstructed, grouping them by subject areas: the conference venue, the official date, the treatment of the Russian delegation, and expectations.
