Energy and the European Industrial Policy. Restarting from the Cutting-edge Technologies

Faced with the European Union’s energy crisis, the essay reflects on the opportunity to relaunch European energy policy through the development of an industrial policy that enhances cutting-edge areas. The experience gained within Euratom with reference to controlled thermonuclear fusion can be the basis for defining a new institutional framework with which the European Union and States can support the large technological and infrastructural investments necessary for the development of green hydrogen and more generally of a more sustainable economy. Moving in the wake of the fusion experience, based on an innovative experience of international cooperation, the European Union can also strengthen the foreign dimension of energy by building strong industrial relations aimed at stably importing renewable electricity and green hydrogen. In this way, the European Union could restore peace and prosperity to the European continent, recovering a role of geopolitical balance on a global level.
