Retracing the stages of the creation of the EPPO will confirm how, due to the traditional reluctance of nation states to cede part of their sovereignty in criminal matters, the goal of promoting a unification, albeit sectoral, of national systems remains extremely difficult to achieve and also not necessarily desirable at any cost
