This research studies the psychological and perceptual aspects of a system of punctual interventions of urban regeneration using nature-based solutions. In particular, the project aims to improve the livability, especially in summer, of the area of Genoa Cornigliano, which is heavily cemented and highly critical regarding the heat island phenomenon. Suitable areas to host these interventions have been identified through a preliminary analysis of the microclimatic conditions of the area using the Envi-met software. Then, within each selected area, two different design scenarios were evaluated to ensure the same performance in terms of microclimatic condition improvement. Subsequently, a quantitative analysis concerning the perceptual aspects of the different scenarios was developed. To this end, a web-based survey was carried out on a convenience sample of Genoa residents, some of which living in the Cornigliano district, with the aim of verifying which design outcomes were preferred from the potential users, not only in terms of aesthetic satisfaction but also in terms of perception of improved conditions of physical and psychological well-being. Specifically, the survey questionnaire was set up to understand which aspects of vegetation are of greater interest and which type of urban environment is more attractive: whether a freer and more versatile environment or a more defined environment that suggests possible activities.
