According to Ricoeur, knowing how to remember one’s past and knowing how to exchange one’s memories with those of other cultures are fundamental dialogical skills, because they constitute the premise of a “pluralist” reconstruction of history itself. In my essay, the conceptual background of this hermeneutic pluralism is analyzed, relating it in particular to the original expression of the “memory of the future” and to the act of forgiveness.
